Broken Neck Repair
When this Epiphone SG was brought
in, the owner thought that it might be
just a simple crack.  The guitar was still
strung-up and playable.
After taking the strings off, the top
portion of the neck fell off in my hand!!
Looks like a bit more damage than
just a crack.
I forgot to take photos of the clamps
used to hold this neck in place while
glueing.  It was a storm of clamps and
cauls.  Luckily, this was a clean break,
with no missing wood (amazing really).
A good clamp job and some hide glue
will hold the neck in place.  Note that
the truss rod end has been protected
from getting glue soaked during the
assembly by using heat shrink tubing.
I removed enough finish to get a
smooth touch-up on the break, and to
make sure all the little pinholes are
filled around the crack.  Although the
touch-up is a little light, the break is
gone and it plays just fine.
