Acoustic Guitar Impact Damage Fix
Impact damage on the back of an
acoustic guitar. The hard part with
this repair is getting the cracked
parts back into place.  Also, this is
a laminated back with a dark wood
in the center.  This is going to
tough to hide in the final repair.
This first thing I did was place this
little jack-screw in over the repair.
The top side of the jack has a nice
padded caul to protect the spruce.
The bottom is placed flat on the
dented area.  When the jack is in
place, I can force the dent back
out into place.
After the area is expanded, I
saturated the entire dent with thin
Hide Glue.  Using rubber gasket
material, I lightly hammer the dent
back against the jack.  This sets
the cracks and levels the area
pretty well.  Watch the force on
that hammer!
After the glue has a chance to dry,
the area is sanded level and
oversprayed with clear.  A good
buff and polish finishes the job.
There is also a reinforcement cleat
on the inside.
